Nottingham University’s Dermatology research department approached us with idea of developing an app to provide an interactive representation of their current paper based Patient Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM) questionnaire.
The app needed to be accessible to both Android and iOS users and provide a simple interface to complete their questionnaire. It was important for them that the users were limited to only submitting the questionnaire once a week. Alongside this, they also wanted weekly notifications to prompt the user when the questionnaire had become accessible again. Once the questionnaire had been complete they needed to provide a visual representation of the compiled results that was filterable by timeframe.
We choose to utilise some of the best emerging technologies including Angular2 and TypeScript allowing us to create a robust and fast app that could be deployed to both iOS and Android. Our design team used Sketch to produce wireframes that represented the journey and different screens within the app. This allowed us to work with the university to get the best journey for the user. The app was developed to work on a range of different resolutions from mobile phones to the latest tablets.
For the graphical representation of the results we utilised JavaScript to generate graphs as soon as the user submitted a questionnaire. The user can then access these graphs straight away or at anytime via the app. To make sure these provided the best representation of the data for the user we developed filters that allowed the graphs to be rendered on the fly with different criteria - such as over a restricted time period. This information could then easily be interpreted by their clinician including any notes that can be recorded against a questionnaire submission.
Finally, we also integrated notifications that could be toggled on / off as well as giving the ability to alter the frequency they're shown.
"I can highly recommend Absolute Design – what a great team! They were able to do the work almost immediately to fit in with my tight timelines. The App was delivered on time and within budget (even managing to do additional bits within the already tight budget). Each stage of the process was clearly explained so I always knew what they needed from me to be able to move the project forward. Absolute had great ideas for the design and functionality but were also always open to suggestions from my team. I would definitely use them again for future work."
